2018 4runner

Introducing the 2018 Toyota 4Runner

The Toyota 4Runner hasn’t undergone any outrageous evolutions for a while, and it’s a great testament to the solidity of its original design. The 4Runner offers a consistently reliable body on frame platform, a powerful V6 engine and better off road capabilities than nearly any other vehicle on the market. The cabin is comfortable and well-appointed as well, making the 4runner quite the well-rounded vehicle and a great value.

Exterior

The 4Runner has a unique exterior form—one lacking in the rounded curves and angular creases found on most new models. The squared off corners and tall stance convey the power and durability laying underneath the body, so the look is quite suitable for this vehicle. Aggressively slanted headlights and a blacked out grill complete the style. The now available Wilderness Package adds crossbars to the roof rack and leaves the cabin a tad more embellished with flair. This year’s other new equipment grouping, the TRD Enhancement package includes 17-inch matte-gray wheels and a stamped aluminum front skid plate.

Engine

The 4Runner’s naturally aspirated 4.0-liter V-6 engine and five-speed automatic transmission can be paired with rear, four, or all-wheel drive. Entry-level SR5 models are rear-wheel drive, while all other trims except the Limited model come with selectable, part-time four-wheel drive. The hearty powertrain has the ability to tow up to 5,000 pounds—more than enough to tow a boat or likewise weighted vehicle.

Technology

Entune, Toyota’s touchscreen infotainment system, is standard in the 4Runner. It’s a simple, intuitive setup that responds quickly to inputs. 4Runners come equipped with an eight-speaker audio system with a CD player, USB port, and auxiliary input jack. Limited models, however, come standard with a 15-speaker JBL audio system, for an even better cabin experience.

Always pay careful attention to the road, and do not drive while distracted. Driver assistance features are not substitutes for attentive driving. See Owner’s Manual for further details, and important limitations.

Interior

Less really is more in the 4Runners interior. The cabin may not be heartily adorned, but makes up for its lack of high end amenities with simple comforts, such as great spaciousness and functionality. The roll-down rear window is a classic 4Runner trait not found in many other vehicles. It allows for an almost convertible-like airflow through the cabin, a luxury that will be hailed on warmer, sunny days.
